Sheppard Somers
Sheppard Somers ’15, a National Merit Commended Scholar, has taken a driven, willful approach to life that is seen both inside and outside of the classroom. As class president, he worked with faculty and students to develop and implement the academic honor code. He challenged himself at nearby Adelphi University excelling in college level calculus and physics. A champion Irish Step Dancer, his craft not only took him to international competitions, but also to the off-Broadway stage in a production of McGoldrick’s Thread during his junior year. An exceptional German student, Sheppard studied abroad in Germany as well as placing 2nd out of 132 Level IV German students on Long Island on the American Association of Teachers of German National Exam. Furthermore, his lead performance in Hansel and Gretel at the 38th Annual German Theatre Festival and Competition at Mount Holyoke College earned 1st place. Designer and builder of surfboards, soccer and basketball team captain, and manager of the after-school snack stand which has raised thousands of dollars for charity, Sheppard has certainly left an indelible mark on our School. He will take this drive with him to Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
